- Use authorization policies to allow or deny access to resources.
- Turn on auditing so user sign-ins and actions are recorded.

End-User Access and Experience22 questions
After sign-in, session policies shape what each user sees and can do. Candidates manage client connections and give access to remote desktops with RDP proxy.
Skills tested

- Choose between clientless access and a full client connection.
- Publish a remote desktop through RDP proxy without a VPN tunnel.

Troubleshooting15 questions
When a connection fails, candidates find the cause. This domain uses NetScaler logs, the nstrace tool and filters to narrow the search.
Skills tested
- Read NetScaler logs to find where a request failed.
- Record a packet trace with nstrace and filter it to one connection.
- Match a symptom, such as a failed sign-in, to the policy or setting behind it.

NetScaler Gateway and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Integration11 questions
Many Gateway deployments exist to deliver Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. Candidates connect the Gateway to StoreFront so remote users can open their apps and desktops.
Skills tested
- Configure StoreFront and NetScaler Gateway to trust each other.
- Explain how an app launch passes from StoreFront through the Gateway to the virtual desktop.
- Find why a published app enumerates but does not launch remotely.

AppExpert and Rewrite and Responder9 questions
AppExpert policies change how NetScaler treats a request. Candidates configure rewrite policies, which change requests and responses, and responder policies, which answer a client directly.
Skills tested
- Write a policy expression that matches a request by URL or header.
- Use a rewrite action to change a header in a request or response.
- Use a responder action to redirect a client to another URL.

Content Switching7 questions
Content switching sends each request to a different load balancing virtual server based on its content. Candidates build content switching policies and virtual servers.
Skills tested
- Create a content switching virtual server and bind policies to it.
- Write a content switching policy that matches a URL path or host name.
- Set a default target for requests that match no policy.

Requirements
- No formal prerequisites: anyone can book the exam.
- Recommended: intermediate knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP and the OSI model.
- Recommended: experience with routers, switches and network protocols.
- Recommended: familiarity with web servers such as Apache or IIS, Windows and Linux server administration, DNS and SSL.
About the CCA-AppDS-Gateway exam
CCA-AppDS-Gateway checks the core skills to run NetScaler 14.x and to publish applications safely through NetScaler Gateway. Network administrators, network engineers and Citrix administrators take it. The exam starts with the appliance itself: networking, High Availability, load balancing and SSL offload. It then moves to remote access: Gateway sign-in, session policies, StoreFront integration, AppExpert policies and content switching. A pass earns the Citrix Certified Associate – App Delivery and Security (CCA-AppDS) certification.
The PlanetCert practice test gives the most questions to NetScaler Gateway setup, nFactor sign-in and load balancing. Each explanation says why a setting changes the traffic path, for example why a failed monitor takes a service out of rotation. Study Mode suits the Gateway and authentication domains, where a policy's binding point decides whether it applies. Timed Mode suits the networking and High Availability material, which is mostly fast recall. Brainy AI Assistant can compare ICA proxy with full VPN access, or explain how an nstrace capture is filtered.

How to prepare for CCA-AppDS-Gateway
- 1
Build a two-node NetScaler lab
Run two NetScaler 14.x virtual appliances so the High Availability domain can be tried by hand. Add two web servers behind them for load balancing and SSL offload.
- 2
Publish one app end to end
Put a web app behind a load balancing virtual server with a monitor, then add SSL offload. Add a content switching virtual server and a rewrite or responder policy in front of it.
- 3
Give the Gateway most time
Five of the eleven domains are about Gateway access. Set up a Gateway virtual server with LDAP sign-in, session policies, RDP proxy and a StoreFront connection.
- 4
Break things, then trace them
Stop a back-end server, use a wrong password, or unbind a certificate. Find each fault in the NetScaler logs and in a filtered nstrace capture.
- 5
Finish with the practice test
Take the CCA-AppDS-Gateway practice test one domain at a time in Study Mode, then a full run in Timed Mode. Rebuild each missed Gateway or policy case in the lab.
