To achieve strict physical separation (air-gapping) of traffic types as often required by high-security regulations, dedicating specific physical NICs (pNICs) to specific traffic types is the optimal solution. While VLANs provide logical separation and NIOC provides bandwidth guarantees, only dedicated physical uplinks provide physical isolation. VxRail allows mapping specific traffic types to specific physical uplinks during the deployment configuration.

VxRail clusters require added nodes to be at the same version or a compatible lower version that can be upgraded during addition. You cannot add a higher-version node to a lower-version cluster without re-imaging. The most efficient and non-destructive path (assuming the customer wants the new features) is to upgrade the cluster to match the new node (or higher). Alternatively, the new node must be RASR re-imaged to the lower version, but upgrading the cluster is generally the preferred forward path.
