AEM Development38 questions
The largest domain is everyday component work. Candidates implement components based on AEM Core Components, connect HTL to Sling Models and OSGi services, develop workflows, and choose between content fragments and experience fragments.
Skills tested
- Create a proxy component that extends an AEM Core Component.
- Write HTL block statements such as data-sly-use, data-sly-test and data-sly-list.
- Map a Sling Model to a component with @Model, @Inject and @ValueMapValue.
- Develop a workflow with custom process steps for a given scenario.
- Decide when a scenario needs a content fragment or an experience fragment.

Build and Deployment10 questions
Every AEM project starts as a Maven build. Candidates define the project structure and generate projects from archetypes with the right options.
Skills tested
- Explain what the core module and the all module each hold in a multi-module project.
- Generate a project from the AEM Project Archetype and set its parameters.
- Configure the parent POM and build profiles for different environments.

Environment Maintenance21 questions
This domain is about keeping AEM environments healthy and moving them forward. Candidates debug problems, explain maintenance releases, configure AEM across topologies, and plan a migration to AEM as a Cloud Service.
Skills tested
- Debug an AEM instance with its logs, CRXDE Lite and the JVM debug agent.
- Explain AEM service packs and cumulative fix packs.

About the AD0-E123 exam
AD0-E123 checks that a developer can build and run Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Sites projects: configure the platform, write components, build with Maven and keep environments healthy. Adobe aims it at developers with up to a year of hands-on AEM work. AEM Development is the largest domain, with core components, HTL, Sling Models, workflows, and content and experience fragments. Passing earns the Adobe Certified Professional - Adobe Experience Manager Sites Developer certification.
The PlanetCert practice test follows the same four domains and gives AEM Development the most questions. The explanations trace how a request passes the Dispatcher on its way to AEM Publish, and how an HTL script gets its data from a Sling Model. Study Mode suits Environment Maintenance, where a question describes a fault or a migration and asks for the next step. Brainy AI Assistant can explain an OSGi annotation such as @Reference, or when a scenario calls for an experience fragment instead of a content fragment.

How to prepare for AD0-E123
- 1
Run author, publish and Dispatcher locally
Install an AEM author and a publish instance with a Dispatcher in front. Publish a page, find it in the cache, then change it and watch the flush agent clear it.
- 2
Build one component end to end
AEM Development is the largest domain. Proxy a core component, add a dialog field, read it in a Sling Model and render it with HTL, then add a workflow step that acts on the same page.
- 3
Open every module the archetype makes
Generate a project from the AEM Project Archetype and read each module. Note what the core and all modules hold, and how the parent POM and build profiles change the build.
- 4
Rehearse a Cloud Service migration
Read how the Best Practices Analyzer, the Content Transfer Tool and Cloud Acceleration Manager fit together. Then practise reading the error log and inspecting nodes in CRXDE Lite for the debugging questions.
- 5
